Marbled Melted Crayon Easter Eggs

Marbled Melted Crayon Easter Eggs

Servings 12

Ingredients

  • 12 Eggs
  • Broken or Whole Crayons

Instructions

  • First, hard boil your eggs. Put your eggs in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once the water is boiling, remove the pot from the heat and set aside 8 to 10 minutes. Drain the water and cool the eggs in ice water.
  • Next, gather up your broken (or whole) crayons. Peel the paper wrapping off of the crayons. You can group different colors together or similar colors.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut up the crayons into tiny pieces. You can also use a box grater.
  • Pour hot water into a big bowl. (You can bring the water to when it *just* starts to boil- we used our electric kettle). Then put the crayon pieces into the bowl and let them melt. (Note: since this craft involves HOT water, please be sure you're helping your little ones! We don't want anyone to get burned!)
  • Once the crayons are melted at the top, carefully put the eggs in the bowl. Use a spoon scoop up each egg multiple times, rotating the egg each time. The pattern of melted crayon that's on the top of the water will be what sticks to your egg as you pull it up! So you have some choice as to what it looks like based on what the pattern on the surface of the water looks like and where you choose to pull the egg up.
  • Dry each egg in the egg carton. We cleaned the bowl between each color and did 3 different batch colors- it was so much fun! To clean the bowl, I made sure the crayon was still melted and wiped out the bowl with a few paper towels.
